Sri Aurobindo

One who has shaped this world is ever its lord:
- Savitri

सहस्रशीर्षा पुरुषः सहस्राक्षः सहस्रपात् ।
स भूमिं विश्वतो वृत्वात्यतिष्ठद्दशाङ्गुलम् ॥ १ ॥
"The Purusha has a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, and a thousand feet. Pervading the earth on all sides, He exists beyond it by ten fingers' breadth."

Rig Veda, 10.90.1.

Letters on Yoga

Selected Letters

- Sri Aurobindo

During Sri Aurobindo's lifetime, relatively few of his letters were published. Three small books of letters on Yoga were brought out in the 1930s. A more substantial collection came out between 1947 and 1951 in a four-volume series entitled Letters of Sri Aurobindo (including one volume of letters on poetry and literature). In 1958, many more letters were included in the two large tomes of On Yoga — II. A further expanded collection in three volumes entitled Letters on Yoga was published in 1970 as part of the Sri Aurobindo Birth Centenary Library.

The Eternal Birth

Physically, it means that the consciousness of this birth will last as long as the Earth. The consequences of Sri Aurobindo's birth will be felt throughout the entire existance of the Earth......

Mentally, it is a birth the memory of which will last eternally. Through the ages Sri Aurobindo's birth will be remembered, with all the consequences it has had....

Psychically, it is a birth which will recur eternally, from age to age, in the history of the universe. This birth is a manifestation which takes place periodically, from age to age, in the history of the Earth.....

And finally, from the purely spiritual point of view, it will be said that it is the birth of the Eternal on Earth. For each time the Avatar takes a physical form it is the birth of the Eternal himself on Earth.

The Eternal Birth
- The Mother

To write my life is impossible. The idea is wrong. Who can write it? In case of poets, philosophers and Yogis, it is no use attempting their biography, because they don’t live in their external life. Their real life is the inner life, and how can anyone else know that life? It is different with men of action: say, Caesar and Napoleon—men who develop themselves through action. Even in their case it would be best if they wrote the biographies themselves.
