PUJALAL

"He is my poet" -this is how the Mother once introduced Pujalal who is best known for the language of the soul in which he sings of the Beauty and Glory of the Divine. I remember how, now three decades ago, he burst on the horizon of poetry in our Ashram with a fresh breath and note of sweetness that touched all of us in the heart and the eye. Till he appeared on the scene, English poetry in the Ashram was largely a preserve of sophisticated intellects or budding philosophers. It was Pujalal who first voiced the aspirations and the emotions of the humbler devotee walking the Path of Love.
Pujalal writes fluently in whatever language he is moved to express his muse -Gujarathi, English, Sanskrit. The present series of his hymns are in the best traditions of devotional poetry and embody his many-sided relation with the Master and the Mother. He sings as their devotee, as a disciple, as a child. The compositions are simple in form, direct in appeal and represent a happy fusion of mind and soul.
It is appropriate that Pujalal has chosen the Sanskrit medium for this commemorative offering on the occasion of the centenary of the Mother's Birthday. For the Mother has always had a special place for Sanskrit in her consciousness.
