We
have not Much information about Sanjiban da , whatever little
we are able to collect , sharing with all of you
Unlike
Krishnalalji , Jayantilal and nishikanto who came here as seasoned
Artist,Sanjiban da had his first initiation of Art from the Mother
and exclusively trained by The Mother ( and Guided by Sri Aurobindo
). Later when he went to Shantineketan, his close brief association
with Nandalal helped him to enrich his art.
Mother
had a good impression about him when She saw him at the Darshan
( Feb. 1933 ) . She agreed to teach him Drawing and oil painting.
On
His first meeting She said : " People in the Ashram know
I can teach painting. I can't teach everyone. But it seems you
have some inclination. I will help you. "
She
sent him envelops with pasted pictures( cut out from Illustrated
newspapers and asked him to colour them.
Sri Aurobindio would smile and comment : " Oh ! What a nice
thing to look at . "
When
he got stuck with some drawing, for instance once with peacock's
beak - Mother herself sketched the beak . She taught him oil painting
one day , by drawing the portrait of Chinmoyee, her closer attendant.
The
Mother had certain revelatory guidelines about the Future Art.
When She discussed this with one of The artists she said :
"Now
the Divine Beauty is establishing itself in the world... we are
going to express the beauties of the Higher worlds through paintings.....
There
is a reason why I always ask you to paint mostly on a white background.
It is an attempt to express the Divine Light without shadow in
the Future Paintings...
In the Future paintings you must not copy blindly the outer appearance
without the inner vision. Do not try to adopt the technique either
of modern art or classical art but always try to express the true
inner vision of your soul and its deep impression behind everything
to bring out the Eternal Truth and to express the glory of the
Higher Worlds. "
